The five CAS study summaries listed below are on-going and conducted at sites across the U.S. and Canada. This is an effort to provide important outcome data that affect treatment decisions for interventionalists that perform carotid artery stenting. These specialists include Interventional Cardiologist, Neuro-Radiologists, Neurologist, Radiologists, Vascular Surgeons and Neurovascular Surgeons.
1. CREST
Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy vs. Stent Trial
A prospective, randomized, multicenter clinical trial of carotid endarterectomy versus carotid artery stenting as prevention for stroke in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid artery disease at normal risk for carotid endarterectomy.
2. PROTECT
PROTECTed Carotid Artery Stenting in Subjects at High Risk for Carotid Endarterectomy
A prospective, non-randomized, multi-center, single arm clinical trial to demonstrate the long-term safety, efficacy and durability of the Xact® Rapid Exchange Carotid Stent System with the Emboshield® BareWire™ Rapid Exchange Embolic Protection System (Generation 3) and the Emboshield® Pro Rapid Exchange Embolic Protection System (Generation 5) in the treatment of atherosclerotic carotid artery disease in subjects at high risk for carotid endarterectomy.

Asymptomatic Carotid stenosis, stenting versus endarterectomy Trial
A prospective, randomized, multi-center, clinical trial to demonstrate the non-inferiority of carotid artery stenting (CAS) using the Xact® Carotid Stent System with the Emboshield® Embolic Protection System to carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for the treatment of asymptomatic extracranial carotid stenotic disease in patients at normal risk for carotid endarterectomy.

The Carotid Acculink/Accunet Post-Market Trial to Uncover Unanticipated or Rare Events
A prospective, non-randomized, multi-center, descriptive, post-approval registry using the Abbott Vascular RX Acculink™ and RX Accunet™ system treating patient at high risk for carotid endaterectomy.
5. CHOICE
Carotid Stenting For High Surgical-Risk Patients; Evaluating Outcomes Through The Collection of Clinical Evidence
A prospective, non-randomized, multi-center, descriptive, post-market study of two Abbott Vascular Carotid Stent Systems and/or Embolic Protection Systems treating patients at high risk for carotid endarterectomy.
